AHCPMG304 Use firearms to humanely destroy animals.

This course is delivered in partnership with PVO Training Australia (RTO 5795).

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge required to euthanise animals using firearms and techniques appropriate for the type and mobility of the animal.

The course applies to individuals who hold a valid firearms license and work under broad direction and take responsibility for their own work. They use discretion and judgement in the selection, allocation and use of available resources and for solving problems.

Additional, specialised topics to be covered by Greyman Ops, as part of this course includes:

  • Using supports: Tripods, bipods and other stabilisers
  • Ballistics: chosing appropriate firearms & ammunition for specific species
  • Air rifles: differences between slugs, pellets and where & when to use each
  • Thermal and night vision optics
  • Requirements for planning urban operations
  • Engaging with Police and other authorities
  • Client relationships

State or territory licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply in some jurisdictions. Destruction of pest animals must comply with state animal cruelty legislation.

Duration: This Unit of Competency will involve the following delivery methods:

  • Self paced, pre-course theory component
  • Face to face delivery (1 day)
  • Practical training and  assessment
  • Further training will be provided if necessary.

This course will be useful for occupations such as:

  • Pest Controllers
  • Primary Producers

In order to participate in this course, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age to attend
  • Must not have any physical or other impairment which would prevent you from handling firearms safely – if unsure, seek advice from your GP or contact us to discuss suitability
  • Must not have any criminal convictions (relating to drug use, violence or weapons) in the past five years
  • Must not have been a subject to a domestic violence order in the past five years
  • Must not have been a subject to an involuntary mental health order in the past five years

It is recommended that pregnant women do not attend this course.

What will I need to provide to enrol?

This course is delivered face-to-face including live fire range practice at an approved range.

Note: the timing for this course is based on the assumption that students have prior firearms handling experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning is not available on this course.
